The Most Frequently Asked Questions About Consignment with Interiors

What is consignment?

When you "consign" an item, you contract another person to sell your property for you. The store or person keeps a portion of the selling price as the fee for the service.  You own the item until it sells.

Example: You have a piece of furniture you would like to sell. You sign a contract with Interiors with an agreed-upon sale price, then we display the piece on our sales floor and sell it for you.  When the furniture sells, Interiors pays you your share of the sale.

How do I consign with Interiors?

If you have an item you are interested in consigning, call us at 925/779-1100. We'll schedule a convenient time for one of our sales staff to come to your home and view the item.  If we agree to go ahead with the consignment, we'll work together to reach a sales price that satisfies you.

How is Interiors different from other consignment stores?

Interiors consignment on lonetree is an operation of Contra Costa ARC, a non-profit organization.  We provide services to over 550 children and adults with mental retardation and other developmental disabilities here in Contra Costa County.  Our business at Interiors is to raise funds to supplement public dollars in order to provide these services - and every dollar of revenue is directly targeted for that purpose.

And something extra a special "bonus" for our consignors: since we are non-profit, you can also claim 40% of the sale value of your sold item as a tax-deductible, charitable donation.

How much am I paid for my consigned item?

Interiors pays consignors as follows:

Fifty percent (50%) of the sale, by check, goes to the consignor ( the seller).

Ten percent (10%) is retained by Interiors Consignment as the cost of consignment services.

Forty percent (40%) is retained by Interiors as a tax-deductible contribution to Contra Costa ARC.

How long does Interiors keep my item on the sales floor?

Items are consigned with Interiors for a 90 day period.

Do you reduce the price of my item if it doesn't sell?

After 30 days of the consignment period, the sale price is reduced by 25%.
After 60 days, the sale price is reduced another 25% off the original price, or 50% in all.

What happens if my consigned item doesn't sell in 90 days?

At the end of the 90 day period, you can choose to pick up your item within 7 days, or donate it to Interiors and receive a tax-deductible receipt for the fair market value of the item.

What is the fee to consign with Interiors?

Interiors doesn't charge a "flat fee," nor do we charge you if we can't sell your item within the 90 day consignment period.

The Big Question:
Why should I consign instead of selling it myself?

Selling by consignment is more convenient, faster and safer than placing newspaper ads or
posting flyers.  Interiors provides an upscale, stylish environment to display your consignment item, along with a knowledgeable and friendly staff.

We don't charge you a fee up front.  And unlike placing a newspaper ad you will not have strangers in your home.

When you consign with Interiors your item is seen by more people, more often so it can sell faster.  Best of all we take care of the whole hassle for you.
